Kindness, like sugar, sweetens whatever it touches. Our words/actions can bring good or bad. The power of kindness is profound in that it can seem like such a small thing but its effects are deep and wide.
Like a pebble thrown into the water the effects of kindness ripple outward.
Sometimes I am overwhelmed by life–as we all can be. I get weary and cranky BUT small kindnesses like:
dishes put away,
laundry moved to the next step,
a cup of coffee brought to me
a call to let me know we are out of toilet paper BEFORE I get home,
an unexpected hug,
a door held open for me,
a text, FB message, phone call from a friend saying “I am thinking of you”,
an invitation to share couch time,
a foot, shoulder, neck rub,
a smile and greeting when I arrive somewhere,
CAN have a rippling effect on the receiver. Sometimes we, myself included, tend to over-think and under-act. All we can see is what we can’t fix or change. Sometimes… I pick up pebbles and throw them in the wrong direction. Throwing stones isn’t the same as throwing pebbles in the water.
**Throwing stones is an accusatory act that only results in bruises or broken things.
It doesn’t take a lot to lift the burden and weariness of this life.
I know neither you nor I can fix my husband’s brain, help my Dad grieve my Mom’s death, keep my kids from getting hurt or making mistakes, feed all the hungry, hug all the hurting, stop the massacres, aid the addicted…
right the wrongs,
make life fair,
heal the hurts,
fix what’s broken,
turn back time,
remove financial stresses,
mend that relationship but
we can be kind to each other and practice the power of kindness.
the breath that kindles the fire of hope,
the small pebble that creates almost endless ripples,
the seed of hope that can grow in the cracks of the hardest ground.
Kindness is free, accessible, and easy to operate.
If you are ever in doubt about what to do :
- Be observant- you’ll see a need
- Ask – Is there anything I can do?
- Remember the words of Jesus Christ, “Do to others as you would have them do to you.”
- K.I.S.S. – Keep It Simply Simple.
Kindness embodies the force of Love, the seed of Hope, and the Grace to restore human dignity.
We all have those moments when we think about our lives.
We want them to matter..
to make them count for something…
to make a difference.
Kindness offers us all of that at a reasonable rate.
Kindness is the power for change wrapped up in a small, unassuming box–just waiting to be given away and then opened. Never underestimate the power of even the smallest kindness–it is the Pandora’s box of Goodness. So “be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving one another”. And yourself, too.
Kindness multiplies exponentially…like ripples in the water.
Drop a pebble in the water:
just a splash, and it is gone;
But there’s half-a-hundred ripples
Circling on and on and on,
Spreading, spreading from the center,
flowing on out to the sea.
And there is no way of telling
where the end is going to be.
